Traditionally, a Journeyman Carpenter could do everything from a foundation of a home, to the roof and everything in between. Including the furnishings, which is where my personal journey began and when it comes to our apprentices nothing comes ahead of teaching them traditional craftsmanship. Whenever we as craftsmen know the traditional skills, everything makes sense. Much like building a solid home, it all starts with a good foundation.
Ideally, when and if we can, we like to take our apprentices into a hole and starting with a builders level, a stick and a shovel, we start with teaching them the importance of level and square and how it follows throughout the home.
